Emma’s Zoo Day at School

Last Friday, Emma had a zoo day at school.  They had to pick an animal to learn about.  Their animal could be anything, except a pet.  She picked a porpoise.  I knew she needed a costume, but just could not wrap my brain around a porpoise, not a dolphin.  The costume was pretty lame, but the emphasis was on the learning (I’m using her teacher’s words).

The costume

The kids all had “Push Me” buttons on that “woke” them up and they told up to 5 facts about their animal.   The class then sang us some songs they had been practicing.

Their finale song was “God Bless America.”  It was so cute and they were so proud of that song.

After the songs, Mrs. Collins passed out the Distinguished Dolphin Awards.  The kids had to pass off 8 out of 15 items during the year, such as reading nightly, learning your address and phone number, etc.

Mrs. Collins and Emma.  She was a wonderful, caring, kind teacher and we will certainly miss her.

Emma’s Talent Show

DSCN2311_274

Today was the Daybreak Elementary Talent Show, otherwise known as “Daybreak’s Got Talent.”  Emma was among those chosen from kindergarten to participate. She told animal jokes and was so excited!  Please forgive the wobbly camera.  I was trying to keep Austin from running off to sit with Tyson and focus and take still pictures.  Why do we moms only have two hands?

Her jokes may be a little hard to hear, but they are:

“What do you call a cow who lives at the North Pole?  An Eski-MOOOOOOOOO.”

“What’s the opposite of “cock-a-doodle-do?”  “Cock-a-doodle-DON’T!”

“What do you call a sheep with no legs and no head?  A cloud!”  (that’s my favorite!)

Trip to Hogle Zoo

Emma’s kindergarten class had a field trip last week to Hogle Zoo!  Austin and I got to tag along and help out.  It was his first trip to the zoo (one of many, I’m sure).  The weather cooperated (it had rained the night before) and we had a wonderful time!
